Té Bheag Unchilfiltered Limited Edition from Gaelic Whiskies - Isle of Skye
Festivities, particularly Hogmanay, without a fine dram of whisky is almost unthinkable in Scotland. So it seems only natural that we recommend one of the best at this time of year! Gaelic Whiskies – Isle of Skye is one of the few remaining family businesses in the Scotch whisky industry, and the only one currently headquartered in the Hebrides. Established in 1976 by Sir Iain Noble it sought to help create employment on the Island and provide an authentic whisky for the Gaelic speaking islands of Scotland. In keeping with traditional methods, most of their whiskies are Unchilfiltered. This is the authentic production method used originally by the Gaels when they first invented whisky. In using this method all of the natural ingredients are retained resulting in a smoother, softer flavour. Gaelic Whiskies have launched a limited edition product within the Gaelic Whisky range. They bottled a new version of their connoisseurs’ blend, Té Bheag! The award winning blend has been bottled at 43%, offering a richer flavour and a longer, smoother finish. The whisky is elegantly packaged in a deluxe black and gold tube, making it the ideal gift. At a price of £31.50, including UK delivery & a 10% Christmas discount, this fantastic whisky is excellent value too!

Puffin on a Rock from Julie Whatley at Edinbane Pottery
We love this painting by Julie Whatley, Puffin on a Rock, which is just one from her range of original seabird paintings (also available as greetings cards). Her paintings depict the freedom and flight of the numerous seabirds that busy themselves around our coastal colonies particularly in Spring and Summer. The iconic puffin, everyone’s favourite, is skilfully drawn, capturing wonderfully the unique colouring and curious, almost clumsy, movement of this comical wee bird. That it can fly with its wonderful oversized beak is simply amazing! Julie also has a collection of more abstract paintings inspired mainly by the environment of Skye, especially sea and shore. Flotsam and jetsam, rocks, sea creatures, plants, and the light on the water all make vibrant subjects. She also loves ceramics and potting and has created the "Beachcomber" and "Limpet" ranges of tableware and makes one-off pieces. All of her work is available at The Edinbane Pottery workshop and shop which is a ‘MUST VISIT’ while on the island. In the meantime you can browse the range and buy online at their website too.

CELTIC QUAICH from Duncan House Workshop and Gallery
Embrace heritage and custom with this exquisite Quaich, or Celtic drinking cup, crafted by Garth Duncan at Duncan House. Traditionally used to welcome guests, offer toasts or to share a farewell drink, it is a fine tradition that continues today. Garth says "The design of the Quaich is ingenious. When used in covenant making, vow exchanging or deal striking, one must lift and drink from the wee cauldron using two hands. Reminding the deal makers that if both do not keep up their ends, the precious contents of the Quaich is lost,…and there’s nothing we hate more than spilling a dram". Crafted from 5000 year old bog oak and finely engraved sterling silver, Garths skilled and meticulous craftsmanship, results in this most beautiful piece. There are so many occasions in Scottish custom where a quality Quaich would still be used today to offer a toast. If you have a special occasion ahead this year, then one of Garths exceptional Quaich’s would be certain to add a touch of Highland ceremony to your most memorable moment. Often drawing his inspiration from traditional Pictish symbols and Celtic knotwork, he also enjoys crafting contemporary jewellery or embracing the challenge of new commissions. Garth alloys all his own gold and silver, sets high quality diamonds and gemstones, and utilises many different skills and processes to make all his pieces at his workshop in The Steading at Strathaird. All Duncan House products are genuinely made on Skye.
