A battle was fought here in the dim and distant past, between a warrior called Aella and the Picts and Scots. The name, Elgol, is derived form his name, Aelia-gol.

Taking a much more up-to-date view here you will see breathtaking views of the Cuillin and also have a good chance of seeing seals.

Elgol was the place from where Bonnie Prince Charlie sailed from Skye after only six days on the island.
