This area is recognised as one of the oldest headlands in the Hebrides. Dunsgathaich Castle ('Fort of Gloom') is probably the oldest castle on the Isle of Skye. It was originally a Norse stronghold, was held by the MacLeod’s until 1266 and eventually became the principal seat of the MacDonalds of Sleat.
