Film Screening: The Guga Hunters of Ness by Mike Day
Description:  As part of CLIMAVORE: On Tidal Zones by Cooking Sections, ATLAS Arts is pleased to invite you to a special evening screening of The Guga Hunters of Ness by Mike Day. Film Synopsis The Guga Hunters of Ness, 2010 The film follows ten men of Ness, in Lewis, as they travel to the tiny, desolate island of Sula Sgeir for two weeks each August. There they catch, kill and salt 2,000 young gannets before returning home with the precious guga meat. These are the last people in Europe who are allowed to hunt the birds, and this is the first time the hunters have granted permission for their annual trip to be filmed for 50 years. The screening is free to attend but places are limited so booking is essential. To book you place, please visit the eventbrite link on the top of the page. Accessibility: The ATLAS Hub is down a steep flight of steps. For any questions regarding accessibility, please contact ATLAS. This film screening is part of the associated Public Programme of CLIMAVORE: On Tidal Zones by Cooking Sections, the new ATLAS Arts commissioned project that looks at forms of eating that address environmental regeneration by promoting ingredients that proactively respond to the new ecological challenges of Scottish waters.
